Taking the Reins

Whoo-ha to you all, my loyal followers!

I am currently watching a horse doing some funny moves on the TV-screen. Right now it’s busy lifting one hoof slowly in the air, setting it down slowly, and then doing the same thing all over again while a lot of two-legged ones are clapping enthusiastically. Really, it’s a shame seeing a carrot muncher degrading himself in this way! Horses should have more pride and learn from us cats how to train their humans, instead of letting themselves be “dressaged” as it’s so fancily called…..

Here is a painting of a “showjumper” that ought to be in every arena to remind horses of their Inner Power:

Thelwell_Showjumper

I think this horse put on a lovely show, don’t you?

Which reminds me that it is time to take up the reins and launch myself into the Chinese New Year which just happens to be the Year of the Horse! But I guess you all knew that already, right?

It’s been the Chinese New Year since the first full moon at the end of January so by now we have all had a chance to feel its energies. A year of horsing around in lucky colours red , green and purple, sporting a jasmine buttonhole while playing on the horses marked with lucky numbers 3, 4 or 9, indulging in fun and games and adventures and making some fast decisions is what I understand it is all about.

Well, I am all for fast decisions- if I don’t like something up comes my Mighty Paw Mighty Quick! Lord Tiger got quite a surprise the other day when I EFFECTIVELY AND RAPIDLY took control over a new feathered wand…

And as for fun and games- we have plenty of those at our place being 4 lively Mouseketeers….

Sir Rufus is very good at thinking up new ways of moving stuff around and hiding things in unexpected places. Hiding behind doors and suddenly appearing is also one of his favourite passtimes.

Charlie Chaplin is our racehorse and he has incredible speed once he gets going. He is excellent at navigating- things in the living room often swing and sway dangerously once he starts galloping at maximum speed, but rarely does anything fall down and break…..And if it does we all BELIEVE it’s because bits and bobs ACTUALLY WANT to drop and break…. They were just waiting for a gentle nudge….

WOW ! Just found this painting as I was surfing the web. I want to be this feline imperial rider!!! I want to get my horse to stand up on two legs at my command and look fierce.

Sorry, feline followers, but I must be off on a moonlight canter now. But first I must dive into the warderobe and dig out a red or green riding jacket, preferrably with a number 3 or 4 on it. I must also sport a sprig of jasmine in my lapel. My steed of choice will be a stuffed toy unicorn who lives in the bedroom windowseat who I am sure is ready for a lark! Then I will be all set for a bit of cross country in the bedroom where I am gonna enjoy bounding across my Mom’s legs over and over again, rearing up all ready to go-go on my enchanted imaginary steed, my feathered wand held victoriously in the air.

It will sure be a wild ride- and a wonderful way of starting off the New Year in the spirit of the horse! Wooohaa!!!!

TENDER CHUNKS FROM CHEF HILL

PURRRR  everybody!

I have been SOOOO  busy taking in January 2013 in LAID BACK style, feline followers! Thus there haven’t been any posts from me to you here lately…

I have enjoyed  the festive season with lots of fun, games, eats and treats together with Charlie and my MOM. Been made a big fuss over by Mom and her friends who recognize me for the handsome and brilliant feline that I am! And I am happy to report that SANTA DID ARRIVE acording to schedule!Brought some lovely pressies too!

sleepyherkbaby

But please don’t feel neglected because here I am again-HERKULES HAPPY PAWS  ready to damce on the keyboard for your amusement!

My paws are particularly happy this evening because I have just partaken of some DELICIOUS  food from a great chef called MrScience Hill. MOM popped down to the pet supermarket  earlier today – which was jolly nice of her seeing that the weather was horrible- cold, gray and icy!!!

I think she is a really SUPER housekeeper who always goes that extra mile to keep me and Charlie happy. In fact I think I’ll slip a few extra coins in her piggy bank to keep her happy and on the go! Mind you, i bet she’ll waste it all on some new album or book about Michael King of Pop Jackson or on some boring riding gear…

Anyways, forget about singers and horses! Back to really important stuff- FOOD! Mr Hill had produced a dainty dish of tender chunks of chicken in gravy. And our Mom served it in our new white dishes. Quite a feast on a gray old January evening!

It was soooo good we immediately licked upp ALL the gravy and devoured every morsel of the meat. And  I  happened to spy with my little eye that there was some food  left in the packet so I immediately got to work on my MOM’s legs- stroking myself against them and looking up at her with adoring emerald green eyes. I did all the work while Charlie sat washing his face- but we BOTH got a second helping!

This is what my dish looked liek after I had finished eating:

Well, you can’t say I didn’t do the dishes…..

That Chef Hill must have had a really inspired moment in the kitchen because he made 12 packets of the tender chunks stuff. Some with turkey and some with chicken. And then he packed them all neatly into a cardboard box and one of those boxes is now chez moi!

I am looking forward to trying the turkey tomorrow,

At least we cats get to eat turkey all the uear round, not like the two legged ones who only get to eat it around December time!

Must go to bed now as I am  VERY  full up and VERY sleepy!

Sweet tender chunky dreams!

FUN FOR FELINES AT THE OLYMPICS

Dear Feline followers,

I am soooooooooooo tired today coz I was up late with my Mom and Charlie Chaplin and SelmaViktoria watching the closing thingy at the London Olympics. But it was worth it since there were so many fun things for us felines to have purr-i-liscious times  with. And for or felinesque Mom? Well her favourite singer  Freddie Mercury showed up so she was THRILLED! Of course Freddie  is dead but he can evidently sing from the grave! Awesome, right???

Anyways, watching the ceremony I got really EXCITED when I saw these dudes in silly hats marching along on stage:

WOW! The furry hats! So cozy! A catnap snuggling up into one of those would be divine. Definately my cup of tea in the comfortable bedding department!!! Perhaps if I am a good boy Santa will give me one for Christmas.

Now Charlie suddenly got very excited when he saw this floating thru the air:

It’s like a giant feather wand, isn’t it? Imagine the fun we could have flipping this with our paws. Charlie’s claws kept going in and out with purrrfect delight at the thought of it! And I can see that those strings in the dude’s  boots would be great fun to play with. definately chewable too…. Yes, loads of fun for us both with this amusing guy!

Now we all love a bit of sparkle and excitement and this is what  the arrangers so thoughtfully provided here:

Sparkles snowing from the sky -so pretty! Ì felt quite mesmerized. Selma was eating a piece of cheddar but when she saw this going on she suddenly stopped chewing and just STARED intently at the screen.  Selma – I think I’m gonna start  calling  you Selma In the Sky with Diamonds….Purrrrr….

And all those flags waving…I feel I want to stand up on my hind legs and carry one. Hmmm, wonder which sport I would have gotten gold in?

Herkules is the name of a superhero so it’s gotta be something powerful for both mind and body. Wrestling is quite fun and I and Charlie often indulge in this activity. problem is Charlie is stronger than me so he always manages to pin me down on the floor. Well, not ALWAYS perhaps. I usually manage to escape and go and hide under the bed!  Perhaps horseback riding would be a better option. I really like the idea of being in charge of such a large animal:

And what flag would I be carrying? I think the Welsh one since my Mom is half Wesh. It has such a pretty red dragon on it which would make me stand out in a crowd. Mmmm, getting a bit sleepy, off to dreamland seeing myself riding a horse carrying a Welsh flag. Oppps! I found one with a horsey! Even better!

A DAY AT THE RACES

Phew! I am so shocked! Spent the afternoon on the couch  watching some major horseracing together with my MOM! These horses must be dumb!

My MOM rides so I already knew that horses allow humans to put strange things in their mouths, and carry saddles and humans around on their backs! BUT that some of them also drag humans around in carts secured behind their backs!!! The human shouts and screams and wants the horse to run faster and faster.

Some horses do run very fast and then the human gets a huge prize while the horse gets a few extra carrots… I am AMAZED that they are satisfied with so little….Of course they get a prize rosette which they can play with at home but if it was ME I would ask for a whole crate full of toys to play with. And if  I didn’t get what I wanted- sorry, mate, no deal. I would never ever lift any of my paws as much as an inch of the ground!

But some  horses actually  ENJOY doing this kind of stuff, Í am told.

This dude here was a MASTER of the art of harness racing. His name is Järvsöfaks and he is a Swedish harness race stallion.

My Mom told me that she had met him at the racetrack and he was VERY  superior. She felt in awe of him and certaintly didn’t tell him that he was a cutie, beautie and silly, childish stuff like that. No- instead she asked for his autograph!!! His owner thought this was very funny as people always asked for HIS autograph and not for that of Järvsöfaks. So he asked his gorgeous black stallion if he would be willing to plant his hoof on a large piece of paper- and guess what? He graciously gave my MOM his hoofprint -with a glint in his eye.

So cudos to Järvsöfaks-he knew all about how to work his fanclub! I am happy to say he is currently enjoying lazy days at hom on the farm, letting people wait on him hand and hoof!

These horses run soo fast that it is amazing they don’t get their hoofs and carts entangled in each other. Well, Mom is now getting really excited because it looks like an OUTSIDER is gonna win! Yessssss- the one in the lead who thought he was gonna win can’t keep up with the French Monster attacking from further back.

PATO is his name- also a black stallion!

I rather fancy that flower thingy he has around his neck! I wonder if PATO is gonna  make a meal of the flowers later on tonight!!! The audience is going crazy and MOM looks jolly pleased.

I think it is great having a Day at the Race on the couch! I can keep an eye on my MOM so she doesn’t throw her money on these four-footed creatures.  And I also can make jolly sure that she doen’t go patting and flirting Järvsöfaks, Pato or the likes of them!!!

She only has time for me, lazing on a perfect Sunday afternoon on her knee!
